Make-A-Wish Foundation Raffle
As announced at our Tuesday meeting, the Kyle Busch Jacket and signed hat was put on E-bay for auction. This is the ultimate Christmas gift for the Race fan. All proceeds will benefit The Make a Wish foundation. For those of you that missed the meeting on Tuesday, it takes about $6000.00 for each wish that is provided for a terminally ill child.
For those of you that have a child it is almost unthinkable to imagine your child ever having to make a final wish. A story was shared Tuesday night of a child that didn't have time to complete a wish because he was too ill, but requested a puppy instead so his parents weren't lonely when he died.
Please get the word out! Do you know an avid race Fan? We need your help making a child's wish come true. Please log in to www.eBay.com the auction number is #130268598719. You can cut and paste this into the search field.

About Make a Wish Foundation
- Mission
- The Make-A-Wish Foundation® of Central and Western North Carolina grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength, and joy.
- Chapter History
- The Make-A-Wish Foundation of Central and Western North Carolina was founded in 1985. Originally called the Charlotte Clark Chapter in honor of the founder, Jerry Clark’s, wife, the office was located in Greensboro. Today, the headquarters is in uptown Charlotte with satellite offices in Greensboro and Asheville. The chapter covers 51 counties in North Carolina from Burlington westward.
- Referrals
- A physician, social worker, or other health care professional may refer a child. A child’s parents or legal guardians may make referrals directly. A child may also refer him- or herself.
- Eligibility
- Children between 2 ½ and 18 who have a life-threatening medical condition and have not already had a wish granted are eligible for a wish through the Make-A-Wish Foundation. The family’s economic background is never a factor in granting the wish. Every child who qualifies receives a wish from the Foundation.
- How Wishes Are Granted
- A specially trained volunteer team interviews each child to determine their one most heartfelt wish. Once the staff person assigned to the wish gives the green light, the wish granting process begins. A wish can take anywhere from a few days to much longer time to complete depending on what the child requests. In-kinds gifts, donations from individuals and corporations, as well as the time provided by many volunteers and celebrities all help make wishes come true.
- Number of Wishes Fulfilled
- The central and western North Carolina chapter has turned dreams into reality for more than 2,200 children. By the end of fiscal year 2008, our chapter granted 219
wishes.
- Wish Possibilities
- The majority of wishes fall into four categories:
* I want to go…
* I want to be…
* I want to meet…
* I want to have…
- Average Wish Cost
- The average cost to fulfill as wish is $6,000. All Wish expenses are fully covered by Make-A-Wish. We do not receive public funds for wishes. Donations come from individuals, corporations and foundations, schools, community fundraisers and gifts of products and services.
- Other Factoids
- Here are some other interesting facts about Make-A-Wish you may need to know:
- Nationally there are 67 Make-A-Wish chapters and 28 international affiliates on five continents.
- The Make-A-Wish Foundation of America was founded in 1980. Since 1980 more than 168,000 wishes have been granted nationally.
- Over 80% of every dollar donated to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Central and Western North Carolina goes towards granting a local wish.
- The most popular wish that is granted is to go to Walt Disney World.
