Upcoming Professional Development Opportunities

The focus of the Institute for Supply Management (ISM)—CV–Richmond Metro Chapter is professional development and applied academics. We cover a wide range of topics during our monthly lecture/seminar season (Sept through June). Hunton & Williams will kickoff the series on September 17 with a seminar focused on mitigating risk with suppliers during stressful economic times. Our October forum will be hosted by the VCU School of Business and will highlight supply chain strategies from Ukrop's, Wyeth Pharmaceuticals, Estes Express Lines, and Alfa Laval. In November we plan to have a lecture on international logistics from HiPage followed by a joint conference with APICS in December. In January, Mr. Randy Owens (VP & Sr. Economist, Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond), will provide an economic forecast for 2009 at the Genworth campus on Broad St. Beginning in August, the 2008 – 2009 lecture and seminar calendar will be available in the Metro Business Section of the Times-Dispatch (print and web site).

How have recent economic conditions within your market impacted your supply chain strategy? — Each company will have 15 minutes to present their data Phase 2: Discuss the strategies employed to mitigate risk in the supply chain and the resulting impact to supplier relations. — Each company will have 5 minutes to respond Phase 3: Question and answer

President's Special Presentation — Person of the Year

This individual has been primarily responsible for promoting exciting and innovative meetings during her tenure on the RMC Board of Directors. Her enthusiasm, networking, and slightly subtle persuasion, has been responsible for influencing the caliber of guest speakers for our luncheon and dinner meetings.

Indirectly she has help boost our Chapter membership, including attendance at the monthly general membership meetings, and increased volunteer support from individuals as well as corporate sponsorship. She has helped to expand the reach of this chapter within our local community through networking events with organizations such as APICS, the Virginia Asian-American Chamber of Commerce, and the Virginia Minority Supplier Development Council.

And she has been always gracious to perform “go-do” action items when the Board needed it done. It is my pleasure to also call her a friend and to present the Person of the Year Award to Yvette Woodard, C.P.M., MWV Purchasing Operations Manager.
