The Triad Report
New** — February Meeting Synopsis: Business Value from Social Networking
Message from the President
Fellow Supply Chain Professionals
Doesn’t it seem lately as if each month you receive this email, we’re bracing for another blast of winter? I believe we are all weary of the weather. But we still have an informative program planned for March. Don’t forget that our March meeting is always “Boss’ Night.” Please invite your manager to attend with you.
Our speaker for March is well known to regular attendees. Dr. Andrew Brod is the Director for the Center for Business and Economic Research (CBER) at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro. CBER performs high-quality applied research in economic policy and business practice, drawing on the expertise of the faculty of the Bryan School of Business and Economics. CBER’s goal is to use sound and objective research to serve the Triad community and to assist in the economic development of our region.
Dr. Brod’s presentation will be on The State of Manufacturing. It will cover the historical context of manufacturing in order to present the background necessary to understand that what we are experiencing now is a continuation of trends from 50+ years ago. Dr. Brod will then explain how manufacturing is faring in the current recession/economic downturn and what the manufacturing sector’s prospects are in the near future. Dr. Brod is back by popular demand because he has a knack for making his topics not just informative, but entertaining. Please join us as we learn about The State of Manufacturing.
Don’t forget that scholarship applications are due March 12! The scholarship requirements and application can be found on our website.
The board is currently looking for members interested in serving on the Triad Chapter Board for 2010/2011. Please notify a board member if you would like to support your chapter in this way. It’s an excellent chance to interface with other professionals and contribute to the goals of our profession. Candidates will have their names added to the upcoming ballot.
Finally, we would like to thank Jeanne Murray, a Worldwide Program Manager for Social Software, IBM Software Group, for the presentation in February: "Business Value from Social Networking: Innovation, Relationships and Results." The February attendees learned how social networking has emerged beyond the consumer interactions to business interactions. The presentation described how IBM and its customers are using social networking to connect people, improve business processes, and share information. The presentation is posted on our website for your reference.
