Welcome to the 2009-2010 ISM–CV
Richmond Chapter year!

I am honored to be President of the RMC this year. We have a very professional, dedicated and enthusiastic Board that has planned programs of interest for the upcoming year. The success of the RMC Chapter depends on the board, the support of the membership and the supply management business community. We certainly have all of the components to have a very successful year.

We have had a few challenges starting this New Year with the departure of key members. The level of accomplishment that we have achieved to date is due to the hard work and dedication of our volunteers and members, some of whom have recently accepted opportunities outside of Richmond.

Yvette Woodard who was to be our new President, recently moved to Savannah, Georgia, to become a Director of Procurement, with Imperial Sugar. Yvette always resonated with pride at being a member of the supply management profession as well as a member of ISM. In the last four years she held the positions of Professional Development Chair, Programs Chair, and Vice President. Yvette worked tirelessly on increasing membership, helped to create the Executive Advisory Board with Bryan Heid and Mark Lareau, helped members with employment opportunities, brought more participation of management to our monthly meetings, and encouraged colleagues to maintain their skill level current. She followed her own advice by obtaining C.P.M. and CPSM certifications and completing a Masters Program in Supply Management.

Sean Williams took a promotion to Associate Director in Procurement Global Services with Bristol-Myers Squibb in New Jersey. He demonstrated great leadership heading up a group of volunteers to design, coordinate, and implement a very successful Procurement Conference in March 2009 for RMC. Sean used his networking skills to put together an Executive Roundtable and a program that was well received by attendees.

Finally, Stuart Berman who was a founding father of NAPM Richmond Chapter and a member for 20 years has recently retired from Alstom and relocated to Florida. He worked hard to keep the chapter going and held many different Chapter positions through the years. Stuart was always ready with an idea or ready to volunteer to get a job done.

The leadership and camaraderie of all of the above will be sorely missed. With that said we have an exciting year to look forward to with our wonderful new board. Our September meeting will be at Wyeth Pharmaceuticals and the topic is Supplier Quality Excellence. In October a free-of-charge program will be offered on Saturday, October 17th, titled Procurement & Supply Chain Management Skills Enhancement Expo — "Are You Prepared"? with speakers from the Virginia Employment Commission, Virginia State University, Presentations on Resumes, Interview Skills, and ISM Certifications.

We will continue to work on strengthening our relationship with Virginia Commonwealth University, Virginia State University, APICS, and the Executive Advisory Board (which consists of upper/executive-level management of local firms). We also plan to offer a training course for CPSM certification. Board Members will also extend the RMC relationship to the ISM National level by speaking at the Global Procurement Conference in Arizona on Dec 3-4. Our goal is to offer educational, networking, scholarships and professional opportunities to our membership and business community.

Take the opportunity to reap the benefits of ISM–CV RMC by attending the monthly meetings: the best training value in the Richmond business community! Become a volunteer and share your knowledge and expertise to take our Chapter to new levels; use the meetings as networking opportunities to meet your professional colleagues in the Richmond region.
On behalf of the RMC Board of Directors, I look forward to seeing you at our monthly meetings and educational events throughout the year. Become more active by sharing your ideas on topics, locations, speakers so that the RMC Chapter can meet your needs and serve you in the best way we can.

Madeline Torres, Lifetime C.P.M.
President, Richmond Metro Chapter
